Emilie Simon + Pacovolume @ Casino de Paris Jan 16th 2010

Emile Simon + Pacovolume
@ Casino de Paris Paris Jan 16th 2010
First of two shows for Emilie Simon @ Casino de Paris , this one is sold-out.
French Support band Pacovolume is opening on the whole tour. They've probably listen to The Cars a lot , nice pop-rock 80's orientated on some songs , they've done a Kim Wylde 's cover " Kids in America".
Maybe the singer should work his English prononciation a bit more.

Pacovolume

After a long wait Emilie Simon greats the Casino de Paris, there's only one drummer on the left and a keyboard-bass player on the right, Emilie is center stage behind her keyboards for all the songs but two..
Her voice is stunning, it's really incredible how she now sounds like Kate Bush.
Lots of electronics on some songs, which is not really my cup of tea but she's so charming you don't notice it too much.
The music sounds a bit 80's even though it's modern and up to date.
You close your eyes and it's like being at a Kate Bush gig , we miss Kate so much, she should be back on a stage.

Setlist

22-20's reform , listen to a new song HERE

One of the best band of these last few years, unfortunately they have split after just releasing one FANTASTIC album full of blues rock in 2004.

22-20's is Back and a new album will be out in 2010.
Listen to a new song on their Myspace page.

Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio in Paris in April

WHAT ?!?

Yeah baby , after performing his Metal Machine album in its entirety for a few shows last year, Lou Reed is coming to Paris @ La Cigale on April 21st as the Metal Machine Trio ( with Sart Alhoun & Ulrich Krieger).
Tickets between 56 & 78 Euros ?!?!!!
Who's gonna pay to hear that shit ?
Certainly lots of Inrockuptibles & Télérama cunt readers, and they're gonna LOOOVe it .

Metal Machine
was done in 1975 to annoy and fullfill his contract with his record Cie but this record which consisted of only larsens and factory noises has become a cult album.
What to expect ?
This ... Hang on baby !

James Ellroy promoting " Underworld USA" @ Librairie page 189 in Paris Jan 15th 2010

James Ellroy signing session for " Underworld USA "
@ Librairie page 189 in Paris, Jan 15th 2010
6:00 PM just in time for the session, lots of people are already queueing outside the store and many more inside.
James Ellroy is on time , he's nice and chatty to everyone , 99% of the people here are buying his new book " Underworld USA".
he's nice to everyone and is always saying something funny.

It is to mention that you don't notice the people from the store or the PR as everything is going very smoothly.
It's a first as there is always in these circumstances a bitch trying to be the new Adolf hitler just to show she's the boss.
Not tonight.
As I'm leaving the store much more people are queueing outside than when I came in 30 min earlier. he's successful.

Jan 17th : James Ellroy @ Librairie Dante , 203 Rue de la convention Paris XV.
Jan 19th: @ Librairie Millepages, rue de Fontenay, Vincennes 6:30 PM
Please check date & time before going.

Jacques Dutronc @ Zénith Paris jan 14th 2010

Jacques Dutronc @ Zénith Paris
Jan 14th 2009

French singer Jacques Dutronc is back on stage for the first time since 1992.
All the shows @ Zénith are sold-out , 5 in a rowbetween the 12th & 16th of jan.
He will be back in Paris for more gigs this summer.
It's the first that we're seeing him on stage.

With Vincent Lindon as a guest on vocals for a song
He's here to play all the hits, all dressed in black including his musicians , black & white stage & lightning.
As cool as ever , strangely enough he's drinking Perrier on stage and not whiskey and he's NOT smoking his trademark cigar.

Famous french session bass player & composer Jannick Top is on ... bass , Erdal Kizilcay (ex David Bowie ) is on guitar, a gorgeous blonde on backing Vocals & flute ( Sophie Braconnier ) & other musicians (couldn't get their name ).

Jacques Dutronc is relax for the whole 90 min gig maybe a bit too much. His speeches between songs are a bit lame anyway songs are speaking for themselves and we had them all:
« Et moi, et moi, et moi », « Qui se soucie de nous », « La fille du père Noël », « L’opportuniste », « J’aime les filles », « Les cactus », « Il est cinq heures, Paris s’éveille », « Les play-boys », «Gentleman cambrioleur » ,"L’hymne à l’amour (moi l’nœud)", « Fais pas ci fais pas ça », « Le plus difficile », « Le petit jardin»,«Merde in France (cacapoum) »
NOT in that order.
The band is rocking with some nice guitar soli, they even introduced one song with some Rolling stones riffs.
Jacques is not doing that much behind the mike leaving the spotlight to the musicians when he's not singing.
The encore consisted of 3 already played songs :« Et moi, et moi, et moi », « La fille du père Noël» & « Les cactus » ( ?!? )
Cool set but it could have been a bit better.

Crack Boum Huuuuu !!!

See Ya

One Shot Not recording with Natalie Merchant, Andrew Roachfoard, Natalie Williams, Lisa Hannigan, Kurt Elling & Jehro Paris Dec 12th 2010

Natalie Merchant, Andrew Roachfoard, Natalie Williams,
Lisa Hannigan
, Kurt Elling & Jehro
One Shot Not
Paris Dec 12th 2010
Complete setlist above

Second show of the year 2010 for ROCKERPARIS and it's another Tv Show, this time for French-German tv Arte.
In front of 300 people, several artists are performing a couple of songs one after another, this time there is a House Band so the artists invited are all singers.
No stage as the audience is seating down around the musicians , so it' s a really cool setting.
  • French singer Jehro is the first ( singing in english & Spanish ) a mix of Funk & Acoustic Spanish music , really cool songs and warm voice. Nice set
  • Folk Irish beauty Lisa Hannigan is next ( she played a few years ago with Damien Rice and is now on her own ) she could easily play an Oliver Peel session. Great voice , great songs and really good looking too.
  • English beauty Natalie Williams ( another sexy looking gal) is bewitching us with her soulfull voice & music.
  • Another soul English artist with Andrew Roachford, on his own on the piano for the first song. It's obvious he listened to Stevie Wonder a lot in his youth ... and guess what ? He's doing a Stevie Wonder cover just after.
  • Natalie Merchant ( former 10 000 Maniacs singer ) first song is very soft , second is New Orleans jazz and groovy.
  • Then we have crooner Kurt Elling, it's obvious he listened to Frank Sinatra a lot.
  • Encore is a Motown medley with Roachfoard doing a ... Stevie Wonder cover ( "uptight") while Natalie Merchant is dancing like a maniac backstage followed by Kurt Elling (another Stevie Wonder cover: " Golden Lady") & Natalie Williams ending the set.
I've been to a few One Shot Not recordings and this one is by far the best I've been to.
There's always one or two boring artists but this time they were ALL absolutely great from Folk to Soul to Jazz...
They've made a special show with the House Band as the songs that were played were re-arranged specially for the show with a classical quartet and 4 guys on brass plus rythm section and guitar.

There's another recording tomorrow ( with Gush, Karima Francis, Beat assailant, Corinne Baley Rae.... ) and the day after, not sure if I'll be able to go.
We shall see...

Hindi Zahra @ l' Album de la semaine Canal+ Jan 11th 2010

First gig of 2010 for ROCKERPARIS with World-Folk artist Hindi Zahra @ L' Album de la semaine.

Already saw her a few months ago @ One Shot Not recording in Nov 2009 and opening for Suzanne Vega on june 26th 2007, so I knew what to expect.
After the first 2 slow tempo songs on a reggae rythm I was a bit afraid that the show would be like this all the time but then things started to move a bit more with uptempo songs always with an african "heart" with guitars à la Tinariwen ( from Niger ) or à la music from Mali (homeland of Amadou & Mariam ) but always with a bit of rock.
Really cool set to start the year with.

Tomorrow is the recording of Arte tv show One Shot Not with Natalie Merchant among many other artists.

English Pop/ R&B female singer VV Brown will be playing @ L' Album de la semaine on Jan 18th ( 8:00 Pm )on the same night American indie-rockers Local Natives will be doing a C'est Lenoir Black Session ( 10:00 Pm ).

Favorite Pictures of 2009 Part 2

Part 2 of our selection of Patrice Guino 's Pics from 2009
Click on links for dozen of great Pics , review , setlist & videos

  • AC/DC @ Stade de France in June 2009: once AC/DC put on a great show, Cool Pic by Patrice once again, Angus rocking on the platform during the "Let there be rock" solo.
  • BB King @ Palais des Congres : BB is 81 and still playing gigs around the world, lots of talking between songs but he sure can play ( not like poor Chuck Berry). He always has a funny face on stage , not obvious here.
  • Tina Turner @ Paris Bercy March 16 & 17th & April 29th ( click for dozens of great pics) stunning shows by Tina, She's here on a platform several meters above the audience. Let there be light (Part1 )
  • AC/DC @ Paris Bercy Feb 25th & 27th : Angus on top form here at the first show in Bercy.Favorite Pic of 2009. Let there be Light. ( Part 2 )

  • Tina Turner once again surrounded by the audience in bercy ( Click above for more)

  • Madonna @ Bercy in July : Nice show not really a concert as she's not singing live but she's physically perfectly fit. Great Pic once again she's 'standing' at the end of the catwalk.

  • Anthony & the Johnsons @ Grand Rex in april : His records are great and his voice very emotional, It was a nightmare to take pics as he was in the dark for the whole show. Nice silhouette for this one.

Favorite Pictures of 2009 Part 1

Selection of some of Patrice Guino 's favorite Pics from 2009
For this Part 1 , we've selected only heavy shit from Patrice's collection.
Check the links with much more Pics , video, setlist, review ...
  • Metallica @ Bercy 01st & 2nd April ( click for dozens of other great Pics ) These shows were stunning , even if their records are shit for the last 10 (15 ?) years Metallica are killing machines on stage. All looking forward with audience around them.
  • Dead Weather @ Cigale in June : the record is not very good but live they're kicking ass , this picture represents perfectly DW live , VV is a lion.
  • Judas Priest & Megadeth @ Zénith in March ( click for more Pics ) Double bill , Megadeth has done a killer 45 min best of...set. Here is Dave Mustaine rocking, stealing the show. Judas did a very good set too but Rob Halford's voice was very weak. Great Pic of Glenn & KK headbanging.

  • The one & only Tony Iommi, the master of Riff from black sabbath and now Heaven & Hell @ Casino de Paris ( click for more... ) in june of this year. The black & blue diptych.
In fact we 'borrow' Oliver Peel's idea for this selection of the favorite Pics of 2009.
Check his website if you like almost-unknown Indie-folk-rock trendy bands that most people have never heard of..., @ Rockerparis we're more Classic Rock.

The Rolling Stones won't tour in 2010: Official statement.

The Rolling Stones @ Stade de France in June 2007

The Rolling Stones issued an official statement yesterday.

The statement read :"Following recent UK media speculation, The Rolling Stones would like to make it clear, there are no plans at the moment for the band to tour in 2010."

Too bad as a lot of people were expecting them to tour this year.
Maybe Ronnie needs to clean up his act first , his former Russian girlfriend is giving lots of interviews these days in English tabloids saying that Ronnie's a coke-head and a alcoholic.

SOUNDGARDEN is back !!!

At last : A good news
Soundgarden is reforming

"The 12 year break is over and school is back in session" That's what you can read on the official Soundgarden website.
Chris Cornell sais a few years ago 'We have to have an agreement that we will never tour as Soundgarden _ Soundgarden will never exist – without it being a unanimous decision and that everyone who was in the band is in the band'

My question is : What will happen to Pearl Jam ?
Matt Cameron
is playing with them for a few years now.

What kind of music will they play ? Chris Cornell has become such a pussy since he's living part time in Paris : playing shitty music , hanging out with models in posh clubs , having his breakfast in 5 * hotels and so on ... and talking about his puppy on his Twitter page.
Come On Chris !!!
